About the Author
Bryce Beattie is addicted to pulp-styled fiction. When he was a kid, some careless adult left a tape with several episodes of "The Shadow" lying around. After he listened to that, he was hooked. Pretty soon, audio just wasn't enough and he moved on to to the paperback stuff. At first it was just hardboiled detective fiction, but then he started reading old Conan stories and yarns about John Carter of Mars. Now he's pretty hopeless. In fact, he's so deep into pulp fiction that he writes his own. Other than reading and writing, Bryce enjoys audio theater, swing dancing, jazz and blues music, beekeeping, and firearms.

Aliens, Zombies, and Martial Law oh my!
By GHam
As with the author's first novel, the Journey of St. Laurent has consistent action and a compelling storytelling. JSL is light, easy, and enjoyable to read. It has a touch of grit and a slight campy aliens/zombies feel, but the work manages stay fresh. It is very much a pulp novel and doesn't take itself too seriously - I finished it in three days.
The story picks up where Oasis left off and deals with the zinger of a plot twist from the get go. It's written well enough to be a standalone novel, so if you want to jump right in, don't worry.
What I particulary like about the book is that it is clean and appropiate for most ages. Some fiction in the genre can be overly gruesome or filled with foul language. Not so with this book. It has good tension, fight scenes and drama without any R-rated stuff.

Fun Read and Great Follow-Up
By Josh Hill
I have to say, the author's follow up to the debut novel "Oasis" took me by surprise.
The book is fast-paced and sweeps the reader along. The story is stronger than the previous book, even if the story seems more fantastic. The characters are nicely defined. I found myself rooting for the protagonists, and even mourning a loss toward the end. The author did a nice job, in my opinion, of getting us to like the characters.
I also really enjoyed the difference between the two books. They're fine as stand-alone entries, but are tied together by the same character and world built in "Oasis". Despite the connections, you don't need to read "Oasis" to enjoy "The Journey of St. Laurent". And the way the story ends leaves a nice resonance for the characters too.
I really enjoyed this one, and look forward to more from him on this character and the world he's built around them.
