Excellent Project Management resource for heavy engineering and construction projects
By John J. Connelly
There are multitudes of books on project management but they are very general and not specific to engineering or heavy construction projects. This book is directed at complex engineering projects. It would definitely a good introduction to project management for engineering students and I recommend it for project management professionals early in their careers. The material is also suitable for sharing portions with non-project managers such as commercial and operations to better understand the challenges and role of project managers better. The book covers the full range of project management for engineering projects from initiation, early estimating, budgeting, work breakdown, scheduling, construction, risk management, and close out. It also covers soft project management skills related to project teams and personal management.

By G D Barin
Just this past week, I was talking through the draft project execution plan with the delivery team during the kickoff meeting, one of the project partners asked how we put the job plan together so quickly - I referred him to this book!

By Samer Mahdi
This is a specific technical book, and is a MUST HAVE If you are in the engineering, construction, and project management industry.
Project Management is the art and science of coordinating people, equipment, materials, money, and schedules to complete a specified project on time and within approved cost.
The project manager works for the project, although he or she may be employed by the owner, designer, or contractor.
The dominance of the book is on the triple constraint as an equilateral balance and a recipe for projects' success:
Arranged in a way that has been adopted by global corporations as their real estate delivery process; this books covers the entire life cycle of a project:
| Project Definition >> Project Scope >> Project Budgeting >> Project Planning >> Project Scheduling >> Project Tracking >> Project Close out |
Prof. Oberlender covers the in's and out's of each of the processes with practical advice and invaluable lessons learned from decades of experience on construction sites.
